With almost the whole squad available we decided to field two sides today to maximise the girls’ game time. A Farnham team and also a Barbarians mixed team of Cobham and Farnham affectionately nicknamed Fobham. A big thank you to Eva J, Ettie, Rose, Kerrie and Amy for their great team spirit in joining the BaaBaas team.

The festival format was a familiar 10 per side, 5 forwards, 5backs, 14 minutes per game. Each of our teams played 4 games, coming up against some new teams that we haven’t played before.

The Farnham team played; Cobham, Guildfordians, Reeds and Dorking.
The Baabaas played; Old Reigations, Guildford, Havant and Quins Amateurs.

The festival was a friendly format with no knock out stage so we weren’t keeping score too closely, we won a few and lost a few more. There were lots of positives for all the girls with excellent line breaks, powerful rucking and plenty of jackalling turnovers. Some of the things we’ll work on in the coming weeks are avoiding being held up in the tackle, offloading to close support runners and of course safe & effective tackling.

As the girls continue to build their skill levels it’s wonderful to see them grow as one team. Most impressive today was how well all the girls live up to rugby’s core values of TREDS (Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, Sportsmanship). As a coaching team whilst we want to help the girls develop to be the best rugby players they can be our primary focus for the team is Enjoyment, Inclusion and Participation.
