Torrential rain but team spirit shone through

The warm up started in torrential rain and some late changes to the team as Worthing could only field 12 players; we agreed both teams would play with a 6 person scrum dropping both flankers and Farnham lending Worthing a player for each half.

Farnham started strong in defence and attack taking an early lead with three consecutive tries; Lara opened the scoring with one of her trademark runs followed by two tries from Daisy. Worthing were held back by great defence from Farnham but they kept pressure on to score two tries to end the first half 15-10 to Farnham.

By the second half the rain eased and a solid foundation built from Farnham forwards' set piece, rucking and defence gave the Farnham backs the opportunity to show their depth of talent running in 6 tries,; three more from Daisy, a second from Lara and one apiece from Issy and Amelie M who converted her own try. Worthing continued to pressure throughout the half with several visits to Farnham's 22 but were held out through great defence. An outstanding second half from Farnham ending in a 47-10 win.

The coaches' players of the day podium went to Eme & Winnie for great team spirit as each played a half for Worthing; Ettie for all round play, putting in a full game at prop and a remarkable clearance kick from our try line; and to Daisy for her all round play and five tries!

The game was summed up by Head Coach, Martin:

"Very proud day for me today and enjoyed being referee. The stand out for me was not that we were individually better than the opposition, but that we were a better team than them. We had girls willingly play for the opposition and only positive words amongst out girls. They were a credit to their club, coaches and parents. Teams win matches "
