Following some extremely tough matches the girls had something to prove to themselves.
Heading into a strong wind for the first half the girls had a 15 minute defensive set in our 22 to deal with! Every time we broke out back came S&E. As the the game settled down Farnham exerted scrum dominance which allowed Farnham to wrestle some control back. Following a brief injury break we brought on 4 fresh legs in the forwards. A continued domination in the scrum with Chloe (8) getting more and more confident picking from the base several times showing the rest of the forwards a direct approach was the way to combat the wind.
Substitute loose head Poppy Filer stepped up and with almost her first carry of the game got over in the corner to open the scoring. We gathered the restart and worked hard and direct to exit our half. The girls continued the direct running and developed as confidence grew they started offloading out of the tackles only being held back by one offload too many, however it was a pattern that was working and again Poppy stepped up with the final push scoring her second of the half. Half time and 0-10 up!
A good rest and refuel and the girls had the benefits of a strong wind behind them. A long kick and good chase put S&E deep in there 22 but they took our approach to exiting direct running with offloading. And before we had the chance to settle down S&E carried, offloaded and recycled all the way down the right wing releasing their outside centre who ran under the posts to score which was duly converted. Quite possibly the worst start to the second half but the girls gathered themselves and went again.
The last 30 minutes of the game was possibly the best we have seen all season. The girls were all simply breathtaking! Not a tackle missed, not a pass dropped. The support was phenomenal and the girls got all they deserved!! Trys for Bea N-S, Poppy completed her hat-trick, a first try for Olive on the wing, 2 trys on the other wing for Amy G and the final try from an outstanding Issie Prosser (Outside Centre). Bea and Zara shared conversions. The only disappointing thing was the final whistle preventing the crowd enjoying even more fabulous rugby.
