The start of the Surrey Cup saw a match between a combination side of Richmond/Ironsides and Wasps U16 girls v Farnham U16 Girls. After a narrow loss in the National cup we decided to rest some of our experience and rotate in the squad. The girls took to the challenge as ever, many playing for the opposition to ensure a 15-a-side match could take place.
Truth told we weren't at our best but we showed resilience and determination to see out a spirited effort from our hosts. After half time we tinkered with positions, giving girls opportunities in positions they were less familiar with. Lovely morning for rugby, soft pitches, clear blue, sunny skies and TREDS on show in spades.
Really well done this morning girls and to those that helped the oppo a huge thankyou, showing your ability and adaptability to play with whoever and wherever required.
Two players stood out today Freya Mason and Maddie Kirkham -
Freya growing in confidence with every game, executed her skills with precision, sniped when on, controlled the tempo and injected pace, moving the ball wide effortlessly
Maddie new to the team this season again growing in confidence and positional understanding each game (wing / full back). Patience definitely showed scoring a lovely well deserved try and always making those last tackles 1-on-1 on the wing.
