Our boys first experience of a fully streamed A’s festival and none of them looked out of place.
Farnham Team 1: P4 W2 D1 L1
There were butterflies all round as the boys took the field for the their first match of the day with a real sense of 'this tournament is a big one’. They need not have worried as they treated parents, coaches and spectators to some scintillating rugby. Barely a tag missed nor a ball dropped all day as the boys ran hard, supported on each other’s shoulders and danced in for a number of fine scores. Rosslyn Park set the standard on the day with some extremely aggressive defence and direct running, but our boys, after a slow start held them to 3 all in the second half eventually going down 7-4 in the match (this the teams one defeat). Other matches included a hard fought draw against Old Reigetians 6-6 and two worthy victories against Wimbledon 7-6 and Barnes 6-5. A great day (and a set of results to get the head coach Ant Goddard more than a little excited!)
Farnham Team 2: P4 W2 L2
Our boys first experience of a fully streamed A’s festival and none of them looked out of place. We were caught out a little cold against Richmond in our first match after an hour-and-half wait. The boys dealt with the increased pace and intensity of an A’s match very well but eventually lost by the narrowest of margins (lost 7-8). Next up was Effingham & Leatherhead and the boys ran in some good trys through great support work and individual runs (won 9-7). Next was a loss to a very well drilled Roslyn Park team (lost by three tries). Last up was KCS and the boys dug in for some more great trys and defended their hearts out at the death to secure a 7 tag turn-over which gave us the win (8-7).
Smiles all round, sunshine, medals and ice-cream. What’s not to like!
