Farnham U13s 31 Hammersmith & Fulham 20
Tries:
Sam Wright (3)
Oli Waite (1)
Finlay Anderson (1) + 3 conversions
On a foggy Sunday morning the U13s travelled to Hammersmith & Fulham to play a friendly match against new and unknown opposition
The game started well for Farnham with most of the initial exchanges played in the Hammersmith and Fulham half. Great direct running and support play by the forwards quickly led to an opening try for Farnham by Sam Wright who powered his way over the try line
Strong tackling and fast passing down the line by the backs also caused Hammersmith problems. This was rewarded by a try for Finlay Anderson as he evaded the defence to score in the corner
With their confidence, growing all aspects of the game were going Farnham’s way. Strong scrummaging, fast securing of the breakdown, great tackling by both forwards and backs, was again rewarded by a try as Oli Waite nipped in to touchdown a difficult ball played into the try zone
At 19-0 things were looking good. However, Hammersmith were not prepared to lie down and pressed forward to get themselves up to the Farnham line. Despite some heroic defence they managed to drive over to reduce the deficit, 19-5 at half time
In the second half Hammersmith looked a new team. With fast ball and aggressive running they managed to claw their way back into the game scoring 2 quick tries. With 5 minutes remaining they managed to take the lead at 20-19 with their 4th try
Farnham however were not prepared to lose and continued to drive forward in the last few minutes to rescue the game. With 2 minutes remaining Sam Wright managed to power over for a try to put Farnham back into a narrow lead at 26-20 to setup a grand finale.
With time running out Farnham finally sealed the victory scoring a final try with the last play of the game to earn a hard fought, but well deserved victory
