"...the best try the B's have ever scored!.."

Farnham U14 Bs vs Readingensians U14 Bs

On a windy lunchtime at Wilkinson Way the U14 Bs hosted Readingensians in a squad fixture. Judging by the previous meeting of these squads last year this was going to be a hard game and a good measure as to how the team has come on

Playing the first half against the difficult wind, Farnham started brightly taking the game to Readingensians with fast running Rugby . After initial Readingensians pressure, resolutely defended by a determined Farnham team, Farnham won a penalty within their 22 which was dispatched to touch by half way. From the resulting line out there followed a superb Farnham team try

Initially the ball was moved across the whole width of the back line before being taken into a ruck on the Readingensians 22 drawing in their defence. Farnham maintained the momentum winning the ball before moving it quickly down the back line to allow Barnaby Swift to run in a try unopposed. This was then successfully converted by Samuel Johnston against the force of the wind. This try was later described by coach Alistair Mylchreest as "...the best try the B's have ever scored!..", some praise indeed

Farnham 7 Readingensians 0

The rest of the half saw a prolonged period of pressure from Readingensians which Farnham managed to nullify with some great tackling and occasional breakouts by Hari Tote and Barnaby Swift

HT: Farnham 7 Readingensians 0

The second half started with Farnham gaining the advantage of the strong wind. Noah Eldridge coming on at half time at Fly Half increased the pressure on Readingensians with some cleverly directed offensive kicking. Following a powerful scrummage from the Farnham pack within the Readingensians 22, Theo Lees playing his first game for the team, picked up from no. 8 before running powerfully through the defence to increase the Farnham lead

Farnham 12 Readingensians 0

The next Farnham try came again from problems caused by another clever offensive kick. This time Ewan Mcleod stepped around 2 defenders before kicking for space. The speed of the subsequent Farnham chase pressurised Readingensians into a rushed defensive kick which was charged down. The rebound carried over the Readingensians try line, before William Mylchreest pounced on the ball for a great poachers try

Farnham 17 Readingensians 0

Following the restart Farnham were immediately back on the attack. Superb straight powerful running from Jake Kimberley, supported by Theo Lees, led to the next Farnham try with Lewis Pritchard breaking the Readingensians defence to score in the corner

Farnham 22 Readingensians 0

Farnham's final try was again scored by Lewis Pritchard breaking the Readingensians defence following a well secured Farnham ruck

Farnham 27 Readingensians 0

The final try of the game came from the visitors who finally broke the resolute Farnham defence with about 1 minute of the match remaining

Final score: Farnham 27 Readingensians 7

Post match special mentions were made by coach Alistair Mylchreest for the following contributions to a brilliant team display:

o Theo Lees for his try and all round performance
o William Mylchreest for being all over park and scoring great poachers try
o Tom Horrell-Tidbury for his great control in second half,
o Lewis Pritchard for his tries and straight running
o Patrick West for his aggression and throwing himself in ( …best game yet! )

However, the team to a man deserve all the plaudits after a superb display. Keep up this quality rugby….
