Local derby thriller!

Farnham U14 B’s were really up for this match, with wind howling & rain coming down they ran out as a team led by Sam Killen.

Camberley were huge – but then the opposition always are when you’re thirteen.

The first half was a battle, with the Farnham forwards dominating the loose play and line out with the quality throwing of Harry Jenkins and the catching by Freddie Thorne. The boys had several chances to spread the ball wide, but the slippery ball and wind meant handling was tricky. Ferocious defending from the whole team including Max Walton and Jack McDonough meant the first half ended with no score.

Farnham started the second half slowly and Camberley took advantage, they worked a good try and only a minute later scored again and converted both. 14 points down with 20 minutes to go.

The half backs swapped - Max Devergne moved to Scrum half and Karel Coetzee to Fly half which seemed to give the backs faster ball and a better attacking line.

Something seemed to click – Farnham U14s gelled and produced some great flowing rugby. The gain line wasn’t safe especially when attacked by Douglas Smith, Archie Healey and Jack Connelly. With the great attack came strong defence with tackling from Alfie Daden, Seb Biggs, Harrison Clinton and William Farnfield.

The scrum didn’t perform against the bigger Camberley pack, which is something to work on in training, but the rucking phases of play were straight from the training ground. Joe Marsh, Charlie Assadourian and Charlie Aylott put their heads down and drove. This released the running power of Freddie Thorne, Sam Adlam and Sam Killen who joined the back line and the ball flowed through the hands were Tom Clark skinned his opposite number to score a great try in the corner.

Deja Vu - it happened again, great forward play with the ball flowing down the backs, Sam Adlam in a centre position ran over the 2nd try. Surely the boys couldn’t come back and win from two trys down – could they?

14 – 10 with 5 minutes to play – Camberley were rattled, conceding too many penalties and running out of steam. The Farnham B team had real momentum behind them and they all did their jobs, which resulted in Sam Killen scoring the winning try with only time for a missed conversion.

Whoo Yaaa.
