The Fast and the Furious

This week Farnham U15B s were on their travels to Reading for the annual matchup with the Redingensians Rams U15B s. Following last weeks great showing against Old Emanuels there was an expectation Farnham would continue to show their exciting running rugby.

Both teams started the game well playing confident rugby, but Farnham were uncharacteristically getting bossed in the scrummage during the initial exchanges. Redingensians soon started to apply pressure on Farnham playing expansive rugby backed up by great rucking. The Farnham defence was up quickly and tackled hard, but were unable to stop Redingensians breaking the line to score in the corner in the 5th minute. Farnham 0 Redingensians 5

As we have seen in recent weeks Farnham were not phased from conceding the early try and were straight back on the attack pressing Redingensians back deep into their own 22 and maintaining a period of Farnham pressure. Again the pressure told with Alfie McCormick breaking the Redingensians line to score under the posts. This was successfully converted by Will Greeves to give Farnham the lead. Farnham 7 Redingensians 5

Straight from the restart the ball was cycled by the Farnham backs down the line to Theo Lees who powered forward on the wing. Even when held up short of the Redingensians line the Farnham pack were quickly up in support to drive him over. Unfortunately the ball was held up by some excellent defence denying Farnham what would have been an excellent try. The crowd were being treated to a very entertaining end to end game with Farnham showing excellent handling, fast forward play in attack, great line speed and dogged tackling in defence

The game then changed once again with Redingensians starting to build pressure on Farnham with a period controlling the ball. Standout tackling during this time came from Scott Atchison, Noah Goros and Theo Lees with the latter making a desperate tackle on the Farnham line to stop a certain try .

Half Time: Farnham 7 Redingensians 5

As the second half started the game swung again with some concerted Farnham pressure. The Farnham backs handling was excellent causing Redingensians a lot of problems, but just lacked the end product. Finally though Mattie Hodson managed to break through the line following a huge effort by the forwards to score Farnham’s second try. Again this was successfully converted by Will Greeves .Farnham 14 Redingensians 5

Redingensians were however playing well and with quality rucking managed to drive Farnham back drawing in the defence. They scored a well worked forwards try running a superb line to level the try count. Farnham 14 Redingensians 12

Farnham again drew on their reserves with some superb back play being orchestrated by Dylan Milner. One such passage of play saw a loop move in the middle of the line releasing Theo Lees on the wing to extend the Farnham lead. Will Greeves again converted the try to maintain his 100% success rate. Farnham 21 Redingensians 12

Redingensians again hitback with an excellent breakout from deep in their own half to reduce the deficit to 4 and make for an exciting finale. Farnham 21 Redingensians 17

The game ended with Farnham again on the attack with the forwards applying pressure. As the game went on the forwards had stabilised the scrummage and kept the Redingensians pack on the back foot with some excellent Mauling. This was an great team effort and was a well deserved win over very good opponent.
