A view from the touchline.

Well we got our first run-out with the beginnings of our new team, welcome to club rugby for the new lads: Gabriel G, Ashley BP, Lorcan H and Luke G. Safe to say we were in it for the first five to seven minutes and with a number of our boys playing in different/new positions, Haslemere went over for a try in the corner. Farnham then held on for another wee bit before Haslemere ran in three more tries.

Farnham kept battling though with Max S, playing at centre, started getting more and more into the game; picking the ball up from the deck and charging through their lines like a raging bull. Dylan B got a good number of scything runs in making excellent yardage; if Max S was the bull Dylan was the gazelle. It was a run by Dylan that got us up to their 22, then from the breakdown we the dug the ball out and with a quick pass found Callum M charging forward to find himself crossing the try-line; mind you I had to whisper that he put the ball down to score.

Half time 28 – 7

Into the second half, Haslemere got another three tries, but we got two of our own – one of them coming from one of the new lads, Gabriel, finishing off a good team effort. The other try was from a superb run by a Haslemere player we borrowed, a bit of a solo effort – so we won’t dwell on that.

Final 47 - 19

The score doesn’t matter though, at this stage. It was the boys coming together and having a go. Well done to Ben T for having a go at scrum-half and Jack B at fullback; some last minute tackles going in. Everybody put in a great shift, it’s fair to say Farnham had their moments in the both halves with Callum C and Will A making good carries and Angus W, at hooker, working the line-outs well; I don’t think we lost any of our line-outs.

A mention goes out to the coaches as well Karl Brown, Alan Bellenger and Graham Watson (especially GW for remembering the jerseys – eventually ) for being positive with the boys.

And last but not least to you the parents for turning up to support our lads – magic. Long may it continue.

So, even though we’ve got some work to do to improve, build our team spirit – we are not a million miles away. And with some of our other new boys still to make an appearance – Charlie S, James H & George H we are getting there; slowly but surely.
