The first opponents to be welcomed by the U15’s to our new facilities were Ruislip.

As they are outside Surrey we had not played them before but knew that they were a similar sized squad to our own and were playing at a similar level last season.

The fixture was arranged as 3 X 20 minute games to give us the best chance to allow all the boys to play and to make frequent changes.

The first 20 minutes started well with Farnham moving the ball quickly, switching direction and the first score was not long in coming.

The speed of the Farnham play, particularly the offloading and support running was superb. It was several minutes into the game before Ruislip laid hands on the ball and mounted their first attack. The Farnham defence was equal to the task as the ball reached the wing and the attack was snuffed out.

In contrast, each time Farnham had the ball, the boys looked like scoring. Ruislip tackled for their lives throughout and by no means made it easy but each time they thought the attack had been stopped the ball was recycled and taken forward.

By the end of the first 20 minutes, the score line was a creditable 22 – 0 to Farnham.

After a short break for reorganisation, Farnham made 10 changes and Ruislip made their four. Our changes included several newer players and those coming back from injury. A period of pressure from Ruislip was soaked up although for a while it looked as though they might be about to score, it was a breakaway from Farnham that opened the account and the game then progressed much in the same fashion as the first.. The final score was 17 – 0 to Farnham

For the final third, we mixed the players up allowing them to try out in unfamiliar positions and of course allowing some of those who had picked up injuries a break. The result was a closely fought final 20 minutes. Although Farnham opened the scoring a period of intense pressure saw Ruislip go over for a well-earned try. Far from being deflated, the Farnham boys threw themselves back in to the game and closed out an entertaining day with the final score Farnham 12 – 5 Ruislip

Overall the aggregate score was 53 – 5 to Farnham marking a superb arrival at the new club
