A strong Farnham team travelled up the A3 to face an Old Blues team who, unusually for them, have been struggling this season.

But Farnham were not in a generous mood looking to continue in the same vein that had done for Bec Old Boys previously in the league.

Recent encounters have thrown up some memorable duels between these two teams but today there was only ever going to be one winner after the visitors registered the first try within a couple of minutes. Quickly followed by another try, it soon become apparent that unfortunately the two teams were complete mismatched. Farnham dominated both the set piece and open play and Old Blues were shrugged away in contact on too many occasions allowing Farnham easy access to the try line.

Too many injuries this season have hampered Old Blues, forced to blood some third team players and recall some veteran players, but they were never going to be able to compete against a Farnham team with numerous players pushing for inclusion in the first team.

Top try scorer in the backline Ed Weeks, displaying pace and power, crossed for a personal haul of five tries, closely followed in the forwards by Richard Phillips who contributed with four.

At half time the score stood at 0-70. It was credit to Farnham that they maintained their concentration for most of the game and both the forwards and backs got the opportunity to run through they repertoire of moves. Some of the tries were a delight to watch with backs and forwards interlinking, complemented by some fantastic supporting lines.

In this encounter, the list of non scorers was less than those who scored such was the one sided nature with Farnham touching down for a total of twenty tries. Andy James, fortunate to be given some easy conversions, finished with a personal tally of 44 points only missing three kicks all day.

Credit to Old Blues though who continued to press hard and forced numerous errors from the visitors. They got their try in the second half from some sustained pressure and a kick through which wasn't dealt with by the cover defence. When the chaser got his boot to the loose ball it came down to a foot race and the Old Blues player showed his determination to outrun the Farnham winger. After this, Farnham renewed their efforts and score too many answered tries. A club record score of 7-134 highlighted the current gulf between the two teams.

Farnham now look forward, in confident mood, to next weeks home league fixture against Warlingham determined to continue their run of form.
