Farnham kicked off hoping to please the home supporters. They did not disappoint with a final score of 58-14 and another bonus point win. By the final whistle the home side were in rampant form.

The clouds cleared and the rain stayed away. Despite three days of monsoon conditions the Farnham pitch was in a good state at kick off – a credit to the ground staff. Farnham kicked off hoping to please the home supporters. They did not disappoint with a final score of 58-14 and another bonus point win. By the final whistle the home side were in rampant form.

Recently appointed coach Matt Kemp reshuffled the team. With Chas Penn unavailable Andy Freshwater and James Corlett formed the centre partnership outside half backs Ben Rubio and Chris Penn. The back three had the familiar look of in form Ed Weeks, skipper Toby Comley and top try scorer Gabe Hills at fullback.

The changes were also rung in the pack. Behind a front row of Trodden, Rushton and Jennings, Jason Crabbe joined James Franklin in the row with Meagher and Chiverton flanking No 8 Pete Daly. The changes provided for a strong bench of Simmons, Salmon and Buster Bond.

After the early sparring under a testing breeze, Farnham gradually began to gain the supremacy up front. After a series of forward drives Pete Daly smashed over for the opening try.

This early advantage was soon doubled by Hills who gathered the ball in his 22 and simply went through the gears and the OW defence to dot down for his 19th try of the season. With Rubio converting, Farnham eased to a 12-0 lead.

The home team were starting to put together periods of sustained support play - the mid-week training sessions having improved communication throughout the XV. A sniping run by Rubio was carried on by the forwards who put Daly over for his second.

Whilst OWs were offering some resistance it looked as if a lack training took the edge off their true potential and they began to fall off tackles. Skipper Comley provided the finish to secure the bonus point after just 25 minutes.

Nevertheless OWs responded and managed to put together their first sustained period of attack and scored under the posts with half time beckoning. 24-7.

The home side now played into a strengthening breeze. OWs had the opportunity to exploit the conditions. Their forwards again enjoyed a period of sustained play and drove in close to the posts. This attack was repelled allowing Farnham to break out from their own 22, cover 90 yards in Barbarian style with inter passing and support play at its best and put in James Corlett to score.

The game appeared out of sight but back came the valiant visitors to score under posts - 29-14.

The bench re-shuffle introduced Buster Bond on the flank, Simmons to the row and Mike Salmon in the centre. The changes had an immediate effect and team talisman James Trodden crashed over for a well-deserved try after another fine demonstration of support play.

Whilst the game was never a rout, Farnham were beginning to break free from all areas. The Trodden try was soon followed by a line-out catch and drive allowing Buster Bond to squeeze over.

With the clock running down Farnham continued to attack. A superb jinking run by scrum-half Ben Rubio released centre Mike Salmon who took the direct route to the posts only to be halted a metre short. Flanker Jason Crabbe was in immediate support and the points assured.

The last ten minutes were proving too long for the visitors. After a superb outside break skipper Toby Comley went over and then, in the last few minutes, the coup de grace appropriately went to the flying full back Gabe Hills.

Under tricky conditions and against opposition who simply refused to lie down Farnham had produced periods of tremendous attacking rugby interspersed with periods were the final pass simply would not go to hand or the ball was lost at break-down or tackle. This was a good run out prior to the top of the table clash scheduled for next Sat 25th versus unbeaten KCS Old Boys. It promises to be a mouth-watering encounter for all rugby supporters.

Former Farnham centre Andy Browne and Wales Under-23 Richard Gwynne awarded the President’s podium points. Pete Daly was recognised for his tremendous presence all game (3), James Trodden the team's heartbeat (2) and Gabe Hills (1) - give him the ball he will score.
