This Saturday Croydon came to Fortress Farnham, hoping to restrain table topping Farnham, on their mission to top the Surrey league.

The sun was trying to show itself between a cloud strewn sky, but the pitch was fast and firm under foot.
Farnham with a few injuries gave starts to Philips on the flank, replacing an injured Bond and Trodden replaced regular prop Black in the front row. Lewis and Comley made a new partnership in the centres, with Hills making a first start on the wing. A large crowd had assembled, expecting a fast running game and plenty of points were on the cards as Croydon were at the foot of the league.
The game started with a slight lack of direction as both teams spent early minutes attacking and defending without any success. Farnham looked to have the upper hand with some good counter rucking, and an early Daly charge at the line. The stalemate was broken by an amazing loopy run by Rubio who fed the speedy Hurley and passed to Meagher for an opening try in the corner, a long conversion was narrowly missed by Rubio. Some good ball wining by Philips won the next ball that was span wide and Comley brought Hills into the game with a scissors move for an early effort. A Croydon penalty was then quickly taken and Comley ran over for his first that was converted by Rubio for a 12-0 lead.
From the kick off Croydon failed to go the ten metres and Farnham took a scrum. Daly picked up from the back and fed Rubio who passed to Hurley coming into the line at blistering pace. Hurley ran in 40M using Hills as a dummy and scored between the post, Rubio took the simple conversion. Croydon then put a rare effort into attack and had 4 or 5 drives at the Farnham line, all of which were manfully defended, finally Farnham counter rucked led by Simmons and Daly and the ball was won and passed out wide to Hills who beat three defenders to score in the corner. The crowd are hoping to see more of the same later in the season as his fitness returns after a prolonged break in the USA. Rubio’s foot converted and Farnham led into the break by 26-0.
The second half started in the same manner with wide balls to Hurley who skipped down the line, or on the line, Lewis was also used to break the line in an all out effort. Finally Croydon conceded a penalty, with quick thinking Daly tapped the ball and crashed over the line through an unenthusiastic defence.
The ever reliable Rubio place the ball between the post for a 33-0 lead
Farnham then had the luxury of bringing on their subs, Black went to front row and Troden moved to the Flank giving a hard working Phillips a rest. From a clearance kick the ball was then caught by Meagher and fed to Comley who ran 50M and chipped the full back , the ball bounce up a meter from the line and Comley stopped and picked it up for a spectacular try out wide, Rubio then actually missed a rare opportunity and slid the ball wide. Farnham led by 38-0.
From the following drop out the ball was caught by Lennox who judged a good feed to Daly and the rest looked easy, even with a hitch kick in the stride Daly ran 55M through a frail defence to score under the post. The Croydon scrum half who had a good game was heard telling the team they had to tackle around the legs, but the advice fell on deaf ears, or sensible heads depending on how you want to look at it. Rubio as is common converted the try and the score moved on to 45-0. It only took a few minutes for the next try as Croydon cleared their lines to half way, unfortunately the ball was securely caught by fly half Penn who called a move and attacked, kicking through for Comley to gather and score his third try of the match. A Hat-trick for the skipper, for the second week in a row and a great example of leading from the front, and buying the bears. Croydon now quite dejected were to leak one more try as again they cleared their 22, only to be caught by the excellent Rubio who fed Daly, then Penn and finally Hurley to score again in the corner before converting his seventh conversion of the day to finish 59-0.
Farnham now top the table by 6 point from Old Tiffs who we beat the other week. The next fixture is a cup match.
