“When she was good she was very, very good and when she was bad........!”

Following this 59-10 win against a US Portsmouth XV - who never gave up the battle - the Farnham boys knew that for the first twenty minutes it was untidy. It was a like Orphan Annie. “When she was good she was very, very good and when she was bad........!”
Nevertheless, another bonus point win closes the gap at the top of the table to one point. Eastleigh are top with Old Cranleighians closing in - a three horse race for promotion?
With perfect conditions for rugby, Club Captain Dave Hurley appropriately made the first inroad. Blistering pace following up a delicate chip, he was hauled down yards from the line by desperate US defence. An early shuffle in the back with Jennings bloodied put Jonny Davison to hooker and Jordan Frost into the back row. The packs pummelled each other. Front rows are content with the outcome in their domain - the actual result does not feature in their game plan. Joris, Jennings and Trodden interchange with Davison and Naisbitt to achieve a similar outcome similar. Alpha male domination!
At last a break out. Daly on the charge, offloads to Jemi Akin-Olugbade and its 5-0. At last a conversion from Toby Salmon. 7-0 to Farnham.
Their defences breached and the Navy are on the back foot. Its leaky in the bilges and Batten smashes over for Farnham's second. Salmon with the extras and 14-0. Still US defend, attack and hit the Farnham wall, are beaten back and a breakout team try through the hands and a lobbed pass to winger Luke Jermyn.
The bonus point is secured by half time with an Ollie Brown break on to Dave Hurley who is unstoppable at pace. The conversion a formality for Salmon 26-0.
Nevertheless, the crowd restless at half time. Some brilliant handling had been interspersed with knock-ons and untidy play - improvement required.
A rejuvenated US begin the second half in lively fashion winning a penalty which allows kicker Carter to open their account.
Chalker, a real flyer from the Academy, is now on at full back for Farnham. With Ben Jones, Jordan Frost, Jonny Davison, Ollie Brown, the Salmon brothers, and Comley, the home-grown talent is really starting to blossom. The second half is a sparkling example of brilliant handling (with the occasional complete cock up).
Toby Salmon loop and Jemi in for his brace and the extra two for the provider.
Jason Crabb back to his best after two seasons out, goes in under the posts with another Salmon conversion 40-3 to Farnham.
If anything, the pace is increases. Back come US but a battling, rampaging charge out by the colossal Pete Daly forces US to defend. “All hands on deck! We are swamped!” Salmon with an intuitive side step leaves the defence left flat-footed. 45-3.
Credit to US, they straight back on the attack and a earn rare success after a pick and drive move. Ben Lanigan over under the posts with easy points for Carter.
But there is no respite for US. Two more tries for the ubiquitous Salmon plus extras taking his personal tally to 31 to go with his 3 Podium Points.
Another bonus point victory shows the strength of this current Farnham squad. US competed throughout - credit to this famous old club.
Next week Tiffinians at home with a 2.30 kick off followed by our famous firework party.
Podium: Toby Salmon - showed all his skills – 3, Ollie Brown - first game as captain brought out the best in him – 2, Difficult third choice with Jemi Akin-Olugbade, Pete Daly, Luke Batten and James Franklin all putting in massive performances, but just edging it Jonny Davison - 1
