Round up of the Academy Boys (u17/u18)

After the highs for the Academy over the last couple of seasons, 23/24 was destined to be challenging especially when the Head Coach departed halfway through. However with over 70 players between the u17s & u18s, Farnham is one of the few teams in the area who are able to enter 2 sides in the county competitions.

Early on we beat local rivals Guildford in the national cup before exiting away to Marlborough. A close Surrey Waterfall Cup group stage saw the boys lose by a score to Teddington in the third place playoff. The highlight pre Xmas was taking 80+ to the West Country which enabled the two year groups (and parents!) to gel.

We entered a squad in Hants Division 2 to ensure competitive rugby throughout the group. Most of the league games were close but we lost more than we won. The knock out stages provided the chance for redemption beating Portsmouth, Basingstoke and Camberley by 5, 3 and 4 points respectively to take the Division 2 title.

Although the post-Xmas ledger was even, we didn’t give a good account of ourselves in the Quins Cup. 2 close losses and 2 bigger defeats meant we ended up playing for 7th place v Cobham. Although that was a high scoring draw the opposition scored first so prevailed. So to a final run out this weekend when we welcome the touring Thornbury who’ve hosted us twice before.

To those departing we hope you enjoy your rugby wherever you may go and of course join us to be part of the u23s when you can or even the Seniors for those who are staying locally. And we look forward to seeing the U17s back with the current U16s for pre-season training in July.
