By contrast, in the festival at Reading, Redingensians took a detailed score from each match which were tallyed up somehow (we dont know how) to indicate which teams went through to a final and 3rd place play off. Each visitor had two teams and Rich and I split the boys up into 2 teams for the day. Rich and I also refereed 2 matches each. Many thanks to Gareth and the other parents who helped out hugely.
As it turned out Farnham boys showed fabulous spirit and ended up winning the Shield for the 3rd place.
The boys were all presented with medals and Lachlan was on hand to receive the shield also - which I must admit I don't really know what to do with.
The Farnham parents and coaches were all very impressed with the enthusiasm to win, and the boys' desire to continue playing even with the odd sore hip, knee, bang to shoulder etc. as a result of the hard ground. they also all coped very well with some rougher play too that they hadn't experienced previously and took it all in good sprit. the boys showed some admirable running and support work with multiple passing and looping round, as well as the ability to see and importantly, to make space and run into it brought a number of cheers. There was good respect shown to others and they engaged in proper handshakes and cheers at the end of each game. Very well done.
many thanks to all the coaches and other parents who helped out and to create a great atmosphere.
