Farnham U10 C Squad @ Chobham RFC Development Festival

Sunday morning and The ā€˜Cā€™ team rolled into Chobham Rugby Club full of optimism and intent. The strong resemblance of a battle field than a rugby pitch greeted the players, but the Coaches Justin , Phil & Cliff set to it straight away and had the boys practising drills prior to the first match.

V Warlingham LOST 4- 0

A much larger and physical team gave us a lesson in scrummaging, rucking and mauling . Despite some spirit defence thanks to the tackling of Henry Seymour, Nathan Van Den Heever, Ethan Payne and Felix Tuck, which checked Warlingham on a number of occasions, didn't prevent the morning start off with a resounding defeat.

V REEDS won 2 ā€“ 1

Farnham created opportunities as they moved the ball wide ,and with some well worked passing found the spaces and started to open up in the oppositions defence. Farnham weathered a strong finish from Reeds With some determined tackling but held on to record their first victory of the day.
Two very well worked tries were finished off by Oliver Donoghue and Henry Seymour

V TEDDINGTON lost 4-1

Unfortunately the third game went very much the way of the first match as we struggled to compete in the tight . too late the boys began to realise they could not take on these larger squads up front but by moving the ball wider soon discovered space and were rewarded with a consolation try by Oliver Donoghue .

V COBHAM lost 5 -0

Cobham dominated this game as they continuously drove us off the ball In the scrum, rucks and mauls leaving Farnham very little possession and always trying to defend off our own line. However, the Farnham team did repeatedly deny Cobham a number of scoring opportunities from some last gasp tackles but unfortunately we repeatedly lost the ball at the restart and constantly had to defend.

V CHOBHAM WON 6 -1

Needing a strong finish Farnham shrugged off the previous defeats and again moving the ball wide played their best game of the day. One move involving six different players as the team looked to work the ball in to space and gave their pace men the chance to strike. In defence the boys also excelled as man marking kept the opposition out for all but 1 try .

This final match shot Farnham up in to third place and gave the team a much needed lift to end the day. Disappointing results against teams that we had beaten convincingly earlier in the season can only be put down to The impressive way That their forwards continually drove us off the ball. However, Farnham should be congratulated on not letting their spirits drop as they persevered and never flagged facing each opposition as a united team.
