Farnham U10's Development Squad

The Farnham Development Squad played out of their skins today and narrowly missed out on the final against some extremely tough opposition.

The team came out of the blocks in powerful fashion with a 1-0 victory over a strong Cobham side. The try came from today's scoring machine Nathan Van Der Heever. Rucking was exceptional in this game and the scrum; Brodie Peskett, Charlie Gibbs and Greg Wright (with Charlie Simm as sub), was awesome. The second game against Sutton & Epsom was a 2-2 draw with tries from Nathan and Jakob Stadler, superb on the wing all day. Again, the rucking and scrumming was really impressive, with excellent breakaways from Archie Maclean and Felix Tuck. The third game was a 0-2 defeat against a very well-drilled London Welsh. They were far and away the strongest team in our group. The lads did extremely well to keep the score down and were unlucky not to score themselves. Special mention for some fearless tackling by Rohan Malhoutra, Luke Apted and James Kraitt.

Runners-up in their pool, Farnham then went on to face runaway winners of the other pool, Reeds. This was a really hard match, with seriously tough tackling and a fair few injuries amongst our battling squad (their monster of a prop needed four of our men to bring him down!). Nathan scored a breakaway try and there was some great work by all but we came away with a narrow 1-2 defeat.

A truly valiant effort from every single player on the day, though! Well done everyone and thanks to James and Phil for inspirational coaching, particularly the former's fine somersaulting (after a day and night out at Twickenham, no less)!
