Player Report by: Gareth Morgan/Louis Morgan
The boys started off slowly but got better as the group games went on. Not conceding any tries at all in the group games was testimony to the hard tacking and strong defence. By the Warlingham game the boys’ confidence was up and they finally starting passing the ball round in preference to taking it into tackle.
As group winners we progressed to the final where we were up against a very strong and well organized Rosslyn Park side with several boys who towered over ours.
There was some brave tackling from Farnham but after they got two scores ahead our heads went down a bit. Whilst it did not feel like a 5-0 game they were the better side but our boys will be better for the experience.
Player notes;
Oli Kirkpatrick – Some strong runs and aggressive tackling
Barney Swift – Strong running. “Go to” player from restarts.
Thomas Welsh – Strong running and a few good passes at speed
Josh Hazell – Strong running. Always prepared to back himself
Nye Johnson – Brave tackling for such a small lad. (in the Guildford game he drove a much bigger boy 5m backwards)
Jake Epps – Tenacious and aggressive. Good tackling and brave rucking.
Will Shaw – Fantastic tackling, goes in low around the legs.
Cameron Bellinger – Tough performance. Worked hard as a support runner
Will Burbidge – Deserved to but was unlucky not to score. Good running at wing.
Chris Ratcliffe – Rucked well. Opposition found it hard to rip the ball from him.
Toby Richards – Good honest performances. Put himself about the park.
Louis Morgan – Good side stepping. At scrum half always alive to a dart down the blind side.
