The U12 As took the short trip to Haslemere for this morning's Mini festival vs Cranleigh, Guildford and Haslemere.
Our boys were clearly still asleep when the whistle blew for the start of the first game vs Guildford. Some poor handling resulted in three dropped passes in the game and Guildford's class allowed them to score on all three occasions for a 3-0 loss. The boy's heads dropped but they shouldn't be downhearted as soft tries apart they showed some signs of good technique which will serve well as the season progresses. A different result could so easily have been achieved.
The second match saw a rout of Cranleigh who were short of tackling ability. The boys were keen to make up for the Guildford defeat and tries came thick and fast. Try scorers included Finlay, Ben, Dylan, George and a fantastic try was scored by new signing Louis who ran an intelligent line to slice through the Cranleigh defensive line. The game finished with the As 6-0 to the good.
The third match was against hosts Haselmere who were tough opposition. Haslemere scored first and this shot across the bows once more work our boys up. They applied the pressure ruthlessly and the Haslemere defence cracked letting in two top tries for a 2-1 win.
The Farnham boys went home knowing that a win against Guildford was more than possible if we had started stronger and made fewer handling mistakes. A trophy would have been nice but perhaps in the circumstances, second place was a fair result and will spur the boys onto winning ways later in the season.
Thanks to the coaches (Sam, Jeremy and Neil) and lets hope the boys go one better next time!
