Black and white silverware

After the A teams Surrey champions cup final last week it was the turn of the B team to compete in the Beech cup (Surrey’s third tier rugby tournament ) After winning last years tier 4 Farnham B’s moved up a league this year .

The players made the trip up to Esher RFC where they faced the ‘auld rivals ‘ Camberley RFC .

Camberley RFC boasted 3 county players this season and a pack that looked as if they had been force fed Steroids for the past 12 months . The kick off to no ones surprise saw Camberley take on a very physical game in to Farnham’s half . They battered against the Black and white defence using their enormous players again and again . A calm solid defence met each thrust . Camberley retained the ball expertly and with their obvious weight and size advantage saw them maintain possession and turned over Farnham’s occasional plays time and again .
Farnham found themselves pinned in their 22 for most of the first half tackling in pairs or individually.
Never panicking and keeping their shape the hoops stuck to their game, however the giants relentlessly hammer the line and finally breached its defence scoring under the posts .

Heads did not drop and Farnham working out that they needed to keep the ball mobile as they could not win in a wrestling competition. Back the boys from Monkton came and speed was their ally . Moving quick impact play always looking for gaps and keeping the play mobile they slowly edged in to the oppositions half . A number of infractions helped Farnham as Camberley’s defence became frustrated. The Forwards drove the ball all the way up to the 5 m line before finally moving the ball wide
Where they linked perfectly allowing Khi to run clear in to the far right corner.
Against a stiff wind Austin missed the conversion and the fist half ended Camberley 7 Farnham 5.

The second half saw a much harder edge to Farnham’s game . Having endured the power Camberley could bring to the match for the first half Farnham’s started with a re-newed
resolve. This envigorated spirit and commitment
saw Farnham retain possession and using space and width produce the winning try that summed up everything good that has gone on in this squad.
A solid set piece, sensible work and decisions around the break down with a 7 man attack on a dummy crash ball, linked with the blind side winger, feeding 15, deep, who released the number 14 ,Jacob Fleet,in to space to score a great try in the corner. A difficult kick from the edge of the touch line was converted by Austin Humphries.
Farnham played the territory game for the next 15 minutes as Camberley tried to resume their dominance.... to no avail.

Final score Farnham 12 Camberley 7

Farnham U16 second trophy of the season secured
A black and white season.

Players of the match were Sam Marsh & Austin Humphries .

Player of the tournament was Charlie Gibbs picture below with the cup.

The performance was no fluke and the amount of work players, coaches, support and parents have put in was behind every breath of this winning match

Finally non of this can be achieved without the selflessness work of our coaches. They have worked so tirelessly to improve the players this year and a huge thanks for all their endeavours.
