First league win for the U16 B's

A cold and blustery last Sunday in February saw Farnham arrive at the spare pitches used by the opposition. No changing rooms, 1 portaloo and a mobile catering kiosk wasn't quite what we were expecting, but the 16 players available warmed up positively and listened the Greg's instructions re playing to their strengths by using the forwards to move the ball up the pitch in 3s.
5 minutes after the kick off, Ollie Tyers scored under the posts and Dan Bonnett converted to see Farnham take a 0-7 lead. Sutton and Epsom came back with a try to make it 5-7 and then Freddy Mitchell in his first appearance on the wing scored in the far right corner to take the score to 5-12. A dubious line out win for the home side led to their second try of the afternoon; 10-12. A strong scrum by Farnham got the ball to Dan Bonnett who ran in for his first of the day; the score now at 10-17. Some good play and a few mistakes from both sides saw Sutton come back with their 3rd try and then some missed tackles from the kick off allowed them to get another directly under the posts which when converted took them into the lead at 22-17. Some great linking play between the forwards and half backs led to a try by Karl Butler and the teams went in at half time at 22 each.
A second half scrum to Farnham after another wonky line out gave Dan the chance to take the ball and score both the try and conversion to regain the lead 22-29 for the visitors. some great defence kept the home side out for a few minutes, but they did eventually get over the line, which with a conversion equaled the score at 29 all. Sutton had a scrum in their own half which led to a try under the posts after a strong run through the defensive line by their centre and the home side took back the lead at 36-29. A long kick off put the ball close to Sutton and Epsom's line which allowed Farnham to collect the ball and Tom Lawson scored (36-34). The referee had a word with both captains after a few too many bundles on the floor, which this time gave a scrum to Farnham and Dan Bonnett scored his hat-trick. The score now 36-39 with 6 minutes to go. More issues with players coming off their feet at the ruck led to an unfortunate yellow card for Farnham. Fantastic defending on their own line gave Farnham the chance to clear and as full time arrived, a penalty kick straight off the pitch gave the visiting team their first league win of the season.
