Harlequin amateurs where on the loosing end of a passionate performance as the vets ran in five tries to claim a final win at Wrecclesham.

As so often happens with Farnham vets, looking good in their old black and white strip, the first five or ten minutes of the game where spent defending, as a fired up Quins strung together a series of drives, with their big no8 and center leading the way. Although the first points of the game came from a penalty after a incursion, against the play, by Farnham into the quins half.
The first try came as, with the tide turning and the pace of the game approching the pace of some of the older members of the squad the vets began to make more inroads, and from a lineout deep within the Quins half Gooooooooooode was boosted by the tighthead and able to deflect the ball to the ever-ruddy faced John Sissley who powered over.
Again the tide changed as stung by the vets try quins attacked with width and began to look certain of a try unfortunately for them they hadn't counted on Sticky Lewis who stripped the winger ten yards short of the line to race, as well as he can nowadays, the length of the pitch to score, and Rooney converted.
With half time approaching quins launch another attack this time keeping it tight, and from a series of rucks and a failure to tackle from Barney Hart who just wasn't there, caring more about his wedding than the match, their huge loose-head prop Jan made up for his deficiency in the scrum and went over.

The second half proved a fractious affair and the ref, who was young enough to be even Gav's son, had his hands full at the ruck where proper rucking technique was liberaly deployed.
With quins going down hill and with the wind, in the first few minutes they were able to set up an attack in the corner from where the no eight went over.
With the threat of the a loss geting closer captain Goooooode called on his bench, adding dead weight to the scrum with the introduction of Ginge, and fresh legs in the backs with the returning mizzi in fine form and Riggy as an observing winger, this seemed to do the trick and a fine move started by Rooney saw Robbie Bickerton given the ball with thirty yards to go, it was then something remarkable happened which has not been seen in the lifetime of many of the first team. Robbie passed the ball inside to Mizzi who, not having understood the significance of the action was able to run in and touch down.
The start of the last quarter saw Farnham in completed control as their defense with Doran at the forefront cutting down any runners and the pack shunting the opposition off the ball with t.wit a s uper example, at loose head lifting his opponent in the scrum and "stuffing him"
In attack Rooney and Nibsy started to go through the gears and from a drive to the halfway a smart offload from Evans saw Baker surge puffing his way fourty yard to score.
It was now all Farnham as Quins began to scrap an after a series of penalties the young ref was forced to give a card to one of the quins back row after what he thought was a head stamping incident but as Sissleys face was the supposed recipient and no one could tell if any new damage had resulted, it was commuted to a yellow as Goooode showed a sporting side.
In the final minute it was the turn of the present skipper to follow the old, popular, skipper to the tryline, as, with most of the team involved in various fracas, Goooooode picked the ball from the back of a ruck where it had been laid forgotten by most, and sauntered away from trouble fifty yards, to complete the days triumph.
Afterwoods many beers where consumed in the old changing room as, in a fitting tribute, the showers went cold and the team where forced to wait.
