A Sparkling Performance from Farnham’s 3rds

With Farnham 3rds using a somewhat more senior team this weekend, the game was always going to be a tough one against Old Whigiftians.
The game kicked off with Farnham receiving the ball, the forwards started by taking control and drove direct into the opposition.

It wasn’t too long before the forwards linked in with the centres and using the speed and fancy footwork of Barney Hart a try soon followed.
This early score from Farnham was soon followed by 2 trys from Old Whitgifitians who had now come into their own using both their fast full back and lock as second phase runners.

Now on the back foot Farnham regrouped and started the uphill fight to take the win. The pressure at this point was now too much for the opposition who lost one of their wingers to a yellow card.
In the closing minutes of the first half Farnham had to rearrange its front row due to loss of Paul Keogh, to a nasty cut above the right eye. This was later stitched and we believe his beauty will return.

In the second half Farnham 3s took the opportunity to use all players on the bench. With having changed this amount of players in one hit it was always going to be risky. This was not the case, Farnham responded well using great phase play. The team settled well and used breakaway runs which linked in again with the centres who outperformed their opposition.

During the last 20 minutes of the game tempers were running high and both skippers were called to talk with the ref and advised to calm all players down, this was done a second time and a zero tolerance given. Now in the closing 13 minutes Farnham’s Karl Brown picked up the games 2nd yellow card.

Now the pressure was on to keep the lead as Old Whitgifitians were pushing through using the forwards to secure the ball and feed a fresh pair of legs they now had on the wing. Unfortunately for them, Farnham sat firm and didn’t give in to this attack. With Farnham now back to a full side and firmly camped in the oppositions half the final whistle was blown giving Farnham the 33-24 win they fought hard for.
