The game was delayed 15 minutes to accommodate the fact that the ref was stuck in traffic. In the event we used a more experienced official based near to the club.
We hit our straps fairly early on and pressure was converted into four first half tries courtesy of Karl Brown, Mark Brown, Will Lawson and Paddy Vasey using combinations of guile and power to finish team plays. The only shame was that none were converted. Things were going too well as we headed into the break 20-0 to the good.
However an injury to Mark Brown, which led to a loss of shape, coincided with lethargy in our ranks. This resulted in the visitors grabbing three tries, including one which was converted. 20-17 going into the last 8 minutes (once again following a delay caused by a nasty but not serious injury to their flanker) was not what we'd planned but after a series of rumbles near to the line Karl Brown squeezed over to seal the win 25-17 with five to play. And so it remained.
We could have had more points had Mark Brown and Ryan Goodwin not spilt the ball over the line in the first and second half respectively. Mark Woodwood and Ed Simpson were also held up in-goal. A win just about deserved. A special mention to Darren Cunningham who acquitted himself well on his club debut a full-back.
