A fiercely contested local derby

Farnham 2nd XV faced Camberley 2s in what was always going to be a fiercely contested local derby. Bragging rights have gone to Farnham in the previous couple of seasons however, Camberley is building strength again across all teams. It was easy to see from the kick off that the result of this encounter could go in any direction.
Both side’s physical and not giving anything away. Jordan Frost makes one of several trade mark carries, tackle made but tackler not rolling away, penalty and three points to the good for Farnham.
Camberley straight back from the kick off challenging the breakdown, turnover ball spread through backs wide then back inside, great running lines try Camberley. Conversion made from wide out and 3-7 to Cams.
At the restart, and once again young Frost shows pace and athleticism to catch the restart clean out of Camberley’s hands. Farnham on the attack but the ball is lost in contact and the Cams flyhalf delivers a fine clearance great kick giving Cams an attacking line out 5 metres out. Simple catch drive and try 3-14 with twenty minutes gone.
There followed an intense spell of forward play. Infringements from both attackers and defenders start to niggle the ref. Inevitably it was Cams down to 14 with a ten minute rest to their 9 for dangerous play.
Half time approaching and Gabe Hills, the Farnham express, still regaining his momentum after a two year sabbatical in the Antipodes, receives the ball on his 22. His scything run leaves Cam defenders grabbing at thin air. Almost over but caught and Camberley go off their feet at the breakdown. Farnham take the quick tap penalty and a good driving maul see Captain Foster come away with the spoils
No extras so 8-14 at the break
The second half started with the same intensity with both sides perhaps trying just a bit too hard and losing their structure through impatience. With this level of competitiveness tempers were starting to fray. A quick exchange of heavy handbags on the ground sees Fran Meagher of Farnham and his opposite number from Cams given a ten minute rest. Despite the earlier fracas, they shake hands as they cross the sideline.
Farnham continue to press hard with Hills and Bremner both making great breaks only to be caught and with no support on hand, try scoring opportunities went awry.
A big collision between Frost and Hills as they covered back to tackle a Cams breakout. Hills was down with a head injury yet the ref let play continue. This gave Cams a try scoring opportunity which they duly took 8-19. Things were starting to look bleak for Farnham as Hills left the field for a Head Injury Assessment.
Following the restart, a further period of battle saw neither side making headway. Finally, a clever kick through to the corner puts Farnham in a good attacking position. Farnham were judged to have infringed in the line out and Cams cleared their line with a penalty.
This change around gave Cams the possession and through a quick couple of phases Cams slight but electric fullback showed his class with a run through several defenders. Not a finger was placed on him. Great skills and the nail in Farnham’s coffin for the day. Full time and 8-26 to Cams. A great game with the better side on the day taking the glory.
