

Farnham travelled to London Scottish Lions on Saturday afternoon looking to build of the impressive win against Wimbledon. Farnham welcomed back Jonny Vincent from injury in the only change. The hosts kicked off with Farnham opting to play with the wind for the first half.
The home team started well with their full back beating several defenders breaking into the 22. A knock on gave Farnham relief but a free kick from the scrum gave Scottish an opportunity to tap and go and they touched down for the first score. 7-0. Farnham had to get into the game and did so through their driving maul. It was stopped short of the line with the ball moved wide. Farnham were patient and moved the ball again with Toby Simmons drawing men in and found Toby Salmon who dotted down in the corner. 7-5. Farnham failed to collect the restart and from the resulting scrum, Scottish moved into the 22. They grinded down the Farnham defence with their tight head powering over under posts. 14-5.
The game was very back and forth with the scrum a bit messy but Farnham were dominating at lineout. Oscar Henderson and Shawa Rai both securing several turnovers at the breakdown to help halter Scottish’s momentum. A well executed move saw Jonny Vincent feed the charging Harrison Horner who was stopped just shot but quick ball meant Jonny Vincent strolled over for his 10th try of the season. Conversion successful, 14-12. Scottish won back the restart and were testing the Farnham defence. Their 14 managed to break through the defence and finished off well to score their 3rd try. 21-12. With halftime approaching, Farnham knew they had to hit back and get some momentum in the game. A backs move saw Joey Wood feed Toby Simmons who showed great pace and feet to beat 3 defenders and was dragged down 10 meters out. The ball was quickly moved wide with George Bellamy drawing the last man and feeding Marco Azevedo for the try. A great score that gave Farnham the boost they needed going into the 2nd half. 21-17 the HT score.
Farnham had to start the 2nd half better and did exactly that. They broke into the 22 and were patient with their attack, creeping closer to the line. Joey wood managed to offload well and Toby Simmons dived into the corner for the bonus point score. 21-22. Farnham were dominating the early 2nd half territory and won a penalty that resulted in a line out on the 22. Farnham brought on Ollie Brown and Chris Te Mete too keep the momentum going. A well executed move saw Ben Stevens grubber in behind and Alex Young regathered and finished off well in the corner. 21-27. The next 15 minutes was fairly scrappy with both teams trying to play in the right areas and with the game becoming more tense as it remained a one score game.
With 10 mins to go, Scottish broke into the 22 and although the Farnham defence scrambled well to stop them, Jonny Vincent was shown a yellow card for a breakdown infringement. Scottish stayed patient and their number 8 managed to power over for a score. Conversion successful, 28-27. Farnham had to respond and looked to counter off the clearing kick but as the ball was moved, the left winger intercept the ball and ran in under the posts to clinch the game. 35-27. Farnham still had some time left to try get an additional bonus point and looked to be in for another score but some good scrambling defence kept them out. The home team cleared their lines and the score finished 35-27.
A familiar away day for Farnham who started slowly but came back well to take the lead before unfortunately giving it back. Another rest week coming up before we host Worthing on the 14th of Feb.
