Farnham U18 lose in the Hampshire League vs Alton

But there was a big plus in defeat! Our lads at last started to play with tempo, width, ambition - tap and go the default - committing to a running game where our pace and mobility can cause bigger teams (like Alton) problems - some lovely moments in the open spaces within a good effort.

Important to note that we left 3 tries out there for forward passes at the last when an earlier give would have put us clear. On another Sunday …

So there is clear work for the lads to be done on fitness. This needs to be done on their time! And there is work for us coaches on how we set up and manage so many players and the obvious disruption to combinations that comes from chopping and changing over 70 mins (aimed at ensuring match time for all). Alton benefitted from continuity today where we had challenges.

That said - the overriding message to the lads today was one of taking ‘a good step forward’ in our way of playing. And to a lad they all seemed to leave smiling even in defeat … job done all round.
