Match 1 - Teddington (Farnham lost 1-5)
Scorer – Theo (1)
With strong (& large!) opponents for the first match we made a slow start conceding several tries before half time. The performance really picked up in the second half with Theo making some high speed runs and scoring the only try with good support from Jack.
Feedback from the coaches - we need to remember to spread out for the attack formation and not all bunch up, also remember to run up the pitch not just across it!
Match 2 – Rosslyn Park (Farnham lost 3-6)
Scorers – Theo (2), Edward (1)
Got into our stride quickly with good support and tagging by Charlie, Edward and Ollie.
Great tries from Theo & Edward.
The match was a lot closer than the final result suggests and we played much better than in the first game.
Match 3 – Camberley (Farnham won 6-2)
Scorers – Matthew (2), Jack (1), Henry (1), Ned (1), Edward (1)
We made an excellent start with Matthew quickly opening the scoring.
Everyone played extremely well and displayed excellent focus; Theo in particular did some great tagging and Henry did some great runs and supported well.
Special mention to Matthew and Jamie, who although both receiving injuries, refused to come off and played on. Well done guys!
Match 4 – Guildford (Drew 4-4)
Scorers – Ned (1), Theo (1), Matthew (1), Anonymous (1) – nobody owned up to this one!
We made a great start with a rapid try from Ned.
Good play and tagging from all with tenacious play, chasing Guildford back and forth refusing to let them gain any ground. Great support from James-John and Ralph.
We came back from 3-4 down to level the match. Sadly our 5th try wasn’t allowed – just one step too many after being tagged!
Coach feedback - on a couple of occasions when one of our players had been tagged close to the tryline he had nobody to pass to – so let’s remember to keep supporting.
These results meant we ended up 4th out of 5 in the group, so we didn’t make it through to the final six for the second stage.
Final tally - Theo (4), Matthew (3), Edward (2), Ned (2), Henry (1), Jack (1), Anonymous (1)
So with 14 tries scored against 17 conceded, it was a result to be proud of, even though we didn’t get through. Well done to all!
Thanks to the coaches and all parents for their support.
