Farnham U9 As Winners Waverley Festival
Coming after a successful festival victory last week at Cobham, Farnham U9 Rugby Team were looking forward to the Waverley Festival. This year’s tournament was being played at Cranleigh, in glorious October weather.
Farnham U9 are not renowned for a fast start in festivals and first up were Guildford, who Farnham have shared some very close matches over the last couple of years. A great interception try from Tom Humphreys set the match up nicely, followed by a good try in the corner from Thomas Jolley. Overall a good start with a 10-5 victory and impressive defence from Archie Heath. The second match was against Camberley and some lovely running shown by Reuben Anthony led to 4 tries. There was superb defensive play from Theo Clifford, which made it a second win 35-5. The third match was against Haslemere and before the game the team were told to concentrate on their defence and managed a great victory of 25-0. John-Henry Hill scored a lovely try and Ollie Ryman with two tries and a great defensive display was man of the match in Game 3.
The final match of the day was against Cranleigh, and the team were playing with confidence and didn’t want to end the day with a defeat. Stanley Platt led the defensive line with good support from Ned Brooker in the first half. Some awesome defence from Tom Dickin helped to turn defence into attack and throughout the game Tom Humphreys was on hand to run in 6 tries in the final match and final game victory of 35-5.
