The U11 development squad end the season on a winning note
By Steve Ratcliffe
Despite threatening rain all day the development squad put together some great team performances to end the season on the up!
Match Report: Nick Waite
Game 1: Farnham 0 – Reeds 0
This was a solid start by the boys against a team they often struggle with. Some superb defence, including one almost certain try held up over the line, characterized the team work that would be shown all day.
Game 2: Farnham 12 – Old Ruts 0
Scorers: Tries – Ben Seymour x 2 Conv Daniel Turner
After the first stalemate the boys upped the tempo in this encounter. The two tries by Ben Seymour, one in each half, were both the result of quick taps from penalties. Again the defence held firm with the opposition rarely threatening to break through.
Game 3: Farnham 5 – Warriors 14
Scorers: Try – Ewan Macleod
There was a long wait before this game and concentration seemed to have lapsed slightly. The Warriors scored first with a converted try but a fine run by Ewan Macleod down the right hand touchline gave Farnham hope going into the second half. However the second half was difficult with the Warriors scoring one more try.
Game 4: Farnham 28 – Dorking 14
Scorers: Tries – Daniel Turner x2, Ben Seymour, Penalty Try Conversions – Nye Johnson x2, Regan Jones x2
Wow. After the previous loss the coaches must have put something in the boy’s water bottles. They came out firing with a storming first half in this game. Four unanswered tries in the first half, all converted, took the game away from Dorking. Two great tries from Daniel Turner were separated by another superb try from Ben Seymour after a fine break through the Dorking defence. We also had the unusual situation of a penalty try. Ollie Waite took a quick tap penalty near the opposition try line but was illegally stopped by players who had not retreated. However the team couldn’t keep up the pressure in the second half and Dorking managed to get two tries back.
What a great game to end the season for the U11 development squad. The commitment and team effort were excellent and the improvements over the season impressive.
