The new seasons's U13s held their first mid- week training session this evening using the magnificent facilities now available at Weydon school. The session started on the running track, warming up with a passing drill.
From there the boys moved onto the rubber crumb of the superb 4G pitch where they were split into forwards and backs for role specific drills. The LED flood lights cast a strangely even and shadow free light which is excellent for training.
A short 15 a side game was held at the end, the highlight of which was an exhibition of superb tacking from Charlie Cochrane and Louis Thomas who both took home a "Tackle of the game" award.
The key activity the coaches want to emphasise this season is passing skills. The goal is for each player to pass and receive the ball 30 times per session. Sam commented at the end of the session that the boys didn't quite make the target this time but wth work and practice at home we'll get there.
For the first session it was great to see such a large turnout and the boys went home enthusiastic for more. Thanks to the coaches for getting it all going!
