Farnham U14Bs vs Reeds U14Bs

..great team performance..

On a windy Sunday afternoon Farnham welcomed Reeds to Wilkinson Way for their next league fixture. The game was a very open affair with initial pressure from Reeds. Farnham started tackling well and showed much improvement in the ruck winning a lot of the early encounters. However, after 5 minutes Reeds opened the scoring after some concerted pressure from their forwards which eventually managed to breach the Farnham back line

Farnham did however come immediately back into the game with excellent attacks from Ben Seymour, Samuel Johnston, Oli Waite and Oliver Wingfield. The latter two being stopped by Reeds just shy of the line with their defence scrambling. The Farnham scrummage also showed great resilience standing up well to the Reeds pack even though 4 first choice members were absent for the game. The fast, accurate distribution of the ball from the breakdowns by scrum half Nye Johnson also allowed Farnham to move the ball along their back line and press the Reeds defence

On the stroke of half time a clearing Farnham kick from the 22 fell nicely for the Reeds right wing, who was able to run in unopposed to extend the lead. The half time score, Farnham 0 Reeds 12 did not reflect the closeness of the game as the whole half was evenly contested

In the second half Farnham came out fighting and pressed Reeds in search of an equalising try. Mid way through the half the Referee gave a penalty against Farnham within their own 22 for picking up the ball in the scrummage. The Referee did later apologise for the penalty, as the forward was allowed to pickup within the rules, but unfortunately the decision gave Reeds the platform for their only 2nd half try

Farnham were not downhearted and maintained pressure on Reeds and were justly rewarded for their efforts late on in the game with Theo Lees running through the Reeds defence to score under the posts. The try was successfully converted by Samuel Johnston. The closeness of the game was emphasised by the fact that Farnham had won the second half 7-5 and had opportunities to make the score closer with more clinical finishing

Full Time: Farnham 7 Reeds 17

Overall a great team performance with 4 of the first choice pack absent. All the boys stood up, and never let their big forwards go

The podium points this week awarded by coach Alistair Mylchreest were as follows:

1 point: Theo Lees - great athleticism, a good try after only been playing for 4 weeks
2 points: Lucas Maxwell - stuck his hand up to prop, was fantastic. Good ball carrying too
3 points: Oliver Wingfield - pressure on the big man to stand up today with other absentees, took the gauntlet I set and was outstanding in the loose and the tight
