Warriors first loss!
The warriors face their first real challenge.
After last weeks rush to start the game after traffic hold ups, Farnham were much better prepared and warmed up going into their second league match. From kick off it was obvious they were going to have a fight on their hands as Old Suttionians quickly showed they were a well organised and strong side. Neither side gave much ground to start with and it was nearly 20 mins into the game before there were any points on the board. Poor discipline from the visitors lead to them conceding a penalty 20 yards in front of their own posts, which Andy James comfortably slotted home.
The first half continued as a fairly even contest until a few minutes before half-time, when Old Suts managed to get the ball quickly wide and get round the end of the Farnham defence for the first try of the game.
The second half began as as the first had ended with a strong physical battle between two fairly evenly matched sides, although the visiting side seemed to find an edge at the beginning of the second half and scored 2 more tries fairly quickly and pulled out a bit of a lead. This finally appeared to kick the home team into action, who then spent a long period camped in the oppositions 22, before Mike Williams dummy and then crash over for a try, brought Farnham back into the game. Two more periods of similar play saw Farnham again rewarded with tries from Tom Sibley and Joe Major.
Old Suttonians could now see the game slipping away from them as the clock ran down and the home side only a point behind, they managed to find another gear and a determined drive down field lead to a well executed crossfield kick putting their right winger in at the corner. A desperate Farnham side piled on the pressure at the restart and made good ground into their opponents half only to be beaten by the clock and concede their first defeat of the season.
