Farnham wins the Havant U16s seven-a-side competition - April 2006!
The lads played dazzling rugby scoring over 155 points in the competition – almost twice as many as our nearest rival - and conceded just three tries in the 6 games played.Despite playing Hampshire country champions Havant and other teams boasting county players, we never really looked like loosing a game! Farnham’s success was based on an aggressive defence which gave the opposition little time or room, determination to win the ball at the break down, good hands (hardly a pass went to ground all day) and blistering pace (and some guile) from Alex Mytton, Rob West and Jamie East. Everyone played on top form.Hector Hoyte Bone was dominant in the tight and at the breakdown; James Morris snuffed out many attacks and won turnover ball; both Dan Kirkbride and Jack Finneran scored long range tries showing a good turn of speed and stamina; Ed Weeks made his tackles and set up a couple of tries with breaks from the base of the ruck; Tom O’Connell distributed with accuracy and coolness; Ben Rubio governed the mid-field both in attack and defence. Pete Finneran and Kevin Hoyte Bone did a cracking job on the touchline making sure that all ten squad players were fully engaged in every game with astute and timely substitutions. The small, but vociferous, band of supporters cheered themselves hoarse. One supporter overheard a neutral spectator remark – “These Farnham boys are a privilege to watch.”And I must say they were.
