Unser 15s V Kingston - 30 January 2005

Small mistakes cost big for Farnham U15s

In a very close fought game at the "quaint" Old Johnians ground in Claygate, Farnham Under 15s lost to Kingston by a single converted try - the only score of the match.  The Kingston try came on the stroke of half time.  That it was the result of one missed tackle in mid-field epitomised how close the game was and how, but for Farnham's slips, the score could well have been reversed.

Kingston's pack succeeded in turning over Farnham's ball on several occasions and whenever the Farnham backs had space to run, a fumble or missed pass put a premature end to the move.

Farnham did play with immense spirit against a physically superior side.  For a ten minute spell in the first half Kingston pounded the Farnham line from 10 metres out, but the boys held out manfully.  On a couple of occasions a break away try from Farnham looked on, but again a knock on or similar infringement would put pay to the attack.

Farnham U15's League season stands in the balance at W2 L2 and next week's away game to Chobham has all the hallmarks of a defining moment.

"If the boys play at Chobham with the same commitment as they did at Kingston, and just a little more skill and concentration, then we will do well," said coach Jamie Salmon.
