Mini Tour 2008 Results

64 matches: W38, D11, L15

Scroll down the page to see how each of the 6 age groups fared.

U7

Took two teams Green and White (a mixture of our A’s and B’s) and Gold and Red (a mixture of our C’s and some eligible by age, U6’s)

18 players in total played in our U7’s "Duck" Teams - at every game our players walked onto the pitch in a line, following our Coach, quacking. This proved to be a very strong team building exercise, whilst keeping the spectators entertained.

At Wells we played Wells A, Frome A and Frome B and played against each other.
Green and White P4 W4, scoring 21 tries in the process
Red and Gold P4 W1 D1 L2, scoring some remarkable tries that left the crowd cheering.

At Bradford we played against Bradford on Avon A
Green and White P1 W1, winning 12-1
Red and Gold P1 W1, winning 5-3
And finally we mixed all our players up and had a competitive inter U7’s fixture, which resulted in a 4-4 draw.
This was just before the spectators and ref froze to the spot!

U8

Took four teams to both Wells and Bradford upon Avon .

At Wells on Saturday, Farnham, Wells and Frome took part in U8 matches (scores in number of tries, not points):
Farnham Wildcats (As) beat Frome 9–3
Farnham Panthers (Bs) beat Wells 6-3.
Farnham also fielded two development sides with little previous competitive match experience – Lions and Tigers – and both put in strong performances to draw with the opposition:
Lions drew 4-4 with Frome and Tigers drew 4-4 with Wells.

At Bradford on Sunday, Bradford provided two U8 teams and Walcott RFC provided a third opposition team. With three U8 pitches available, nine matches in total were played:
Wildcats beat Bradford A 5-2; and beat Walcott 8-2
Panthers lost narrowly to Bradford A 4-5; beat Bradford B 6-2 and beat Walcott 9-5
Lions drew 4-4 with Bradford A and beat Bradford B 6-2
Tigers drew 3-3 with Bradford B and lost narrowly to Walcott 5-6

In total, four Farnham U8s played thirteen matches, winning seven, drawing four and losing just two. They scored 73 tries in total and conceded 46.
These results were achieved while involving a record 34 players, with everyone having the chance to play in at least three matches againstopposition sides.
(Farnham sides also played against each other on Saturday to ensure everyone played at least two matches each both days.)

The A's were unbeaten on tour and kept getting better with each game. The B's used the tour as team building in preparation for the Surrey B's and played some great rugby.

Our tour record in total was P12 W6 D2 L4.

Wells
We fielded 3 teams on Saturday from only 27 players: "A"'s.,"B"'s and a Barbarians
A's   15  v  0 Wells A's
A's   20  v  0  Wells B's
A's     5  v  5  Windsor A's
B's     0 v 40 Windsor A's
B's     5 v 10 Windsor B's
Baba's    10 v 15 Windsor B's
Baba's    15 v  5  Wells B
Baba's    30 v  5  Wells Baba's

Bradford On Avon
On Sunday we were, through injury, down to two teams
A's    25 v 5  BOA
A's    25 v 0  Walcot
B's      5 v 10 Walcot ( Both opposition tries scored by a FRUFC sub)
B's     10 v 10  BOA

Plus an internal A's v B's match in which the Bs played really well. The result flattered the A's so we are not going to record it.

U11

Headline: Played 8, Won 8, Tries for 39, Tries against 2

Wells: The A’s played a good Windsor A team but were quickly in the ascendancy and at half time were 4 tries to nil up. Windsor came out fighting in the second half and we had to work much harder to win that half 2 tries to 1 – overall a great 6-1 victory. The B’s then took on Frome whom they beat 3-0 in an absolutely fantastic performance. As both Windsor and Frome were by this stage somewhat depleted by injury we then split the Farnham squad into 3 mixed teams who proceeded to beat a Windsor team 4-0, a Barbarian team 3-0 and a Frome team 4-0. We were particularly pleased that teams consisting of A’s, B’s and C’s combined performed so well together.

Bradford: The A’s played Bradford who never really had the ball. The forward’s rucking and ball control was excellent and the backs ran in 8 tries without any response – 8 – 0, kept out the chill for our spectators at least! The B’s then went on to play an enormous Trowbridge team – 25 minutes and 6 tries later the B’s had proved that size is not everything! 6 – 0! We left Trowbridge and Bradford to play each other and played 15 a side amongst ourselves. Bradford just edged it against Trowbridge and feeling confident called on our B’s – big mistake. They did score a try when we committed a cardinal sin and let a restart kick bounce but we scored 5 to seal another great performance and a fantastic rugby tour.

U12

We took two teams on tour.

At Wells on Saturday, Windsor joined Farnham and Wells U12 sides (scores in points not tries):

Farnham A beat Wells 30 -0 and beat Windsor 15- 0
Farnham B drew 0-0 with Wells and lost 0-5 to Windsor
Farnham A/B Barbarians drew 5-5 against a Windsor/Wells Barbarians side

At Bradford on Sunday, Trowbridge joined Bradford and Farnham in U12s matches:

Farnham A beat Bradford 35-0 and Trowbridge 35 – 0
Farnham B lost narrowly 0-5 to Trowbridge ( Bradford declined to play them having played Trowbridge)

Farnham A won all four matches without conceding a try. Bs drew one and lost two narrowly, conceding only two tries while contributing significantly to a one-all Barbarian draw.
