Fist Aid at Farnham Rugby Club

First Aid Policy

Introduction
This document sets out the policy for the provision of first aid to members, spectators and other Club players and participants. It forms a subset of the Health and Safety policy and covers the elements under the Club Risk Assessment for the provision of medical equipment and qualified personnel to use it.
In the event of any incident, the Club wants to ensure that appropriate support is given to all those concerned before, during and after the event and that everyone knows what they are required to do, what they are responsible for and have the necessary tools to carry out their duties. Detailed responsibilities and procedures are documented separately in the ‘Farnham RUFC First Aid Procedures’.

Provision of Qualified First Aiders
Farnham RUFC will endeavour to provide qualified First Aid Cover for all playing related activities undertaken at the club, in particular, for all mini and junior activities.  Farnham RUFC will ensure that sufficient qualified First Aiders are available to provide at least one in the ground for any training session and home games and one for each away fixture/college training. These First Aiders will be holders of a current certificate of an appropriate course, which is provided by the club and will be appointed subject to appropriate CRB checks.

Provision of First Aid Kit and Equipment
The club will provide appropriate kit and equipment in both the clubhouse and for individual teams.

Registration of First Aiders
The club will maintain a squad register of qualified First Aiders whose names will be displayed on the First Aid sign in the Clubhouse.

Emergency Access and Telephone
The club will ensure that on both training and match days there is always available immediate access to a telephone for emergency calls and that adequate ambulance access to the club is maintained.  A copy of the Emergency call procedure will be clearly displayed near the telephone.

Reportable Injuries
The club will ensure that the RFU regulations concerning ‘reportable injuries’ are adhered to at all times.

Insurance
The Club will effect insurance, for the benefit of itself and its Players, against loss or damage arising from death or personal injury to its Players occurring at any time in relation to the matches (whether playing in or training for such a match, travelling to or from such a match or otherwise).

Risk Assessments
For all mini and junior playing activities the club will ensure that risk assessments, covering the provision of First Aid, are produced and maintained for training sessions, home games, festivals, competitions and tours.

Providing Information
The club will ensure that a copy of this policy together with a copy of the Farnham RUFC First Aid Procedure Manual is available to all Coaches, Administration Managers and First Aiders of the club.

Policy Review
The club may revise this policy from time to time and if statutory legislation is enacted this policy should be considered revised to ensure compliance.

Signed
