The match ended with Farnham suffered their worst defeat for two seasons loosing 40: 0 to Old Ruts. Old Ruts were worthy winners and took all the points from this match to keep them top of the league table. They were also excellent guests and both teams played a good hard but fair game of rugby. Farnham kicked off the match in glorious sunshine and were immediately pressurised by Ruts who instantly showed they had come to Farnham with determination. Stout defending by the home side forced an early line out which Farnham won. The line out was not straight however and Ruts elected a scrum which they won and kicked for territory. Farnham won the line but couldn’t take advantage of the resulting maul and conceded a scrum for not moving the ball. Ruts took the scrum and only a superb tackle by Izaac Dunk prevented the try. In the loose play that followed Farnham conceded a penalty and a well worked forwards move by Old Ruts took them over the line for their first try. After a missed conversion Farnham took a deep kick to restart. In reply Ruts kicked the ball directly to touch just outside the Farnham 22. Unfortunately the Farnham lineout was not straight and Ruts elected for a scrum. From winning the ball Old Ruts formed a driving maul that took them over the line for their second try. This was converted and after only 15 minutes of play Farnham were loosing their usual sharp, well organised form, missing tackles and despite the sun, feeling distinctly chilly as the gap opened to 12 points. At the restart Ruts came straight back at Farnham pressuring them into their own 22. As Ruts sensed their third try Farnham concede a penalty close to their try line. Despite some staunch defending by Farnham Old Ruts forwards charged over for the third try on the whistle of half time. As the match resumed the pressure from Old Ruts continued and a backs break saw them over for their unopposed fourth try. Farnham were now flagging and this showed with them conceding another well worked try for Ruts. With Ruts heavy forwards tiring and nothing to play for except pride Farnham started stringing some passes together to make head way into Ruts territory but a turn over ball and superb open field running by Old Ruts backs saw them into Farnham territory for their sixth try which was duly converted. The league match now conceded the remaining 9 mins of game continued as a friendly during which time both Josh Parkin and Jack Walsingham scored excellent tries for Farnham. The match was won by the better side on the day and Farnham must now re- focus their efforts for the next match if they are to remain cometitive in this league. For excellent defending, full back Jamie Crawford was awarded player of the week. Match reporter: G. Tomlinson
