Farnham Academy kicked off their Surrey U18 League season with a convincing 27-3 win away at Weybridge Vandals. The team was on song from the start scoring fifteen points without reply in the first 15 minutes.  A good passage of play with forwards securing quality possession and the backs running sharp lines took the ball into the Weybridge 22 where they infringed allowing Farnham skipper Ben Rubio to open the account with a penalty goal.

Farnham's defence was direct and rugged. Pressure on the Weybridge back line saw the ball spilt and some sharp play off the floor allowed No8 Jack Babayan to break free for a 20 yard dash to the line.  Again it was from broken play following a hurried clearance kick that allowed U17's Dom Parker and Gabe Hills to show their skill and pace out wide to allow the latter to score a spectacular back's try.  Ben Rubio converted from out wide having missed the earlier chance in front of the posts.

Farnham maintained the tempo immediately after the half time whistle.  The ball spun from one side of the pitch to the other with backs and forwards showing pace and skill. The attack was held on the Weybridge line but lock Craig Macey was there to pick up from the base of a ruck and use his strength to burrow over for the try.  Weybridge stayed with the game and never gave up. Following a break from their fast and agile full back, they earned a long range penalty to get on the scoreboard.  Coach Geoff Bond then turned to the substitutes' bench and it was a different team that scored the final try albeit a complete replica of the earlier one.  Aggression at the break down won the ball for forwards and backs to combine to take the ball to the Weybridge line where once again Craig Macey delivered the "coup de grace".

"Craig was man of the match for the second game in a row," said Bond. "Two tries is enough to earn the accolade, but as always he had worked hard all afternoon and it comes as no surprise that he was in the right place at the right time to score.  As a team the Farnham Academy showed bags of talent and commitment and I am looking forward to the rest of the league season."
