A Team Camberley - 2006/2007

Sunday 8th October 2006

Surrey Under 15’s Division 1

Farnham vs Camberley

Match Report

Farnham kicked the game off and for most of the next 30 minutes the game was played in Camberley’s half of the pitch. Farnham had good possession but at vital times let themselves down with a combination of poor handling, loss of ball, poor driving by the forwards and some wrong decision making in the backline. The Camberley pack certainly looked better and more organised than Farnham in the opening exchanges.

As the half progressed Farnham did eventually break the try line, only for the try to be disallowed for holding onto the ball on the ground in the build up play. On 17 minutes the deadlock was broken by an unconverted Farnham try scored by Andy Lloyd. This was followed shortly after by Farnham’s very first yellow card, when Connor Haynes was binned, the extra man did give Camberley the advantage, from which they scored a converted try.

Half Time 5 – 7.

Jamie Salmon’s half time team talk must have been ‘encouraging’ as Farnham started the second half very strongly. Disappointingly, and against the run of play, Camberley were awarded a penalty from which they took the three points. 5 – 10. The penalty itself could well appear on What Happened Next? Ball kicked and hits post protector, hits Toby Finneran’s head and goes over the cross bar where it is caught by Andy Lloyd and grounded. Don’t think you could make that up!

From the restart the lads started to come to the party. Farnham kicked off, Camberley player catches the ball cleanly but there was a certain Josh Creedy right behind him to give him a typical Creedy tackle. Welcome to Farnham! From this point the game started to swing Farnham’s way, but quite a few times the Ref pinged the lads for ill-discipline with the ball, which made it harder on themselves to try and win the game. At the same time tactical changes were being made to the team by Jamie, and we started to see the first tackle being broken through, especially by Logan Jory. Then came the equalising try, which followed a sustained period of pressure and a Camberley player being binned for killing the ball. From the resulting tap penalty the try was scored, but it is a mystery who scored it as both Josh Creedy and Andy Lloyd had a hand on the ball. The resulting conversion was scored by Andy Lloyd. 12 – 10.

The game was now in Farnham’s hands and in the final few minutes a third try was scored. Scrum 10, Toby Finneran broke with the ball and set Adam Telfer up who scored from about 7 meters out. Andy Lloyd added the conversion. 19 – 10.
